What is posterior tibial tendon dysfunction?
Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD) refers to the dysfunction of the posterior tibial tendon causing it to become overstretched and weakened. This can occur after repeated stress, trauma and stretching of the tendon over a long period of time. It can also be due to poor lower limb biomechanics.
Common symptoms of PTTD include:
- Acquired Flat Foot
- Heel pain
- Foot pain
- Ankle pain
- Pain on the inside of your leg (posterior tibial shin splints)
