What are ankle sprains?

Ankle sprains commonly occur during both everyday activities and sporting activities. Ankle sprains occur after a force places the foot and ankle in a strained position, causing a degree of damage to muscles, ligaments and tendons. The damage can range in its severity from a mild sprain to a complete rupture.
